If your site has been hacked you want to take action as quickly as possible. The longer you wait, the more of a mess the hackers can make of your site, and your google ranking!!! If you site has not bee hacked (great!), click here to find out how to secure your WordPress site so you will not get hacked in the first place.
How to get your site back as quickly (and cost effectively) as possible:
Option 1: Do you have a backup?
If yes, great! This is the easiest and most cost effective way to get your site back. If you’ve been taking backups yourself, find the most recent backup and restore it. If that one is hacked, try and earlier version.
Maybe you haven’t been taking your own backups? Don’t panic yet! Check with your host. Backups are often part of your hosting plan (if not I would look for a new host). Even if your plan has backups, double check with your host. This will be the easiest way to get your site back up and clean.
Option 2: DIY cleaning
Depending on how important your website is to your livelihood, you may want to employ a professional to take care of this for you. But if that is not in your budget or you’d just like to give it a try yourself here’s how to get started:
- Install Wordfence – the basic version is FREE!
- Follow the steps outlined in this Wordfence article: How to Clean a Hacked WordPress Site using Wordfence
Option 2: Professional Cleaning
If you don’t have the time to do it yourself, or the hack has done too much damage, you can contact a professional service like Sucuri or WP Fix It.
